There are many different groups and techniques associated with collage. A simple definition of Rollage would be a technique of collage where images are cut into strips and rearranged based on a predetermined plan. The idea of Rollage is not limited to strips though and can include cutting an image or images into shapes that are then rearranged in some fashion. The Czech artist, Jiří Kolář(1914-2002) was known for having developed new techniques of collage that included confrontage, froissage, chiasmage, rollage and other. Kolář would manipulate the paper itself by crumpling, writing on it, using text, weaving it; anything to create surprising and visually striking new combinations. In this gallery I will be posting my ventures to incorporate these techniques in my collage work. Be sure to check back often.
